I grew up in Houston, Texas, and footage of the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey is simply heart breaking. What warms my heart? Seeing various communities offering to help those Houstonians still in need. The Laundry Room said it best: “Together, we can make Texas a paradise again.”

RUN WITH YOUR HEART
Runners World Magazine made a round up of how the running community could support Hurricane Harvey efforts and here are my picks.
- All Fleet Feet Sports stores are supporting the“Shoes for Houston,” a shoe and clothing donation drive. Customers are asked to bring new or gently used footwear and socks into stores.
- Deep in the Heart of Houston, virtual run, September 1-29. All proceeds will go directly to the Buffalo Bayou Partnership to help clean and restore Buffalo Bayou Park, a popular running spot, which was completely flooded during the storm.
- Run for Texas 5K/10K, virtual run, September 1-9. All proceeds will go to the Houston Diaper Bank and the American Red Cross.
FOR THE FURRY ONES
My good friend Denise wanted to send donations or supplies to a reliable group in Texas benefiting animals. She was put in touch with the folks at San Antonio Pets Alive and just that day they were bringing in nearly 100 animals today from Houston & Corpus Christi!. They have expressed a need for donations. Your donation would help to keep the lights on when they’re working extra hours, funding gas to make the trips to pick up animals from the flood zones, medical care for the animals with injuries, and so much more.
