Did you know that the average person uses 10-15 personal care products with 126 different ingredients every day?
Your skin is your biggest organ, and what you put on it, you also absorb! This is why it is SO important to know what you are putting ON your body, not just in it. EEEEK! Scary to think about, right? If you’ve ever caught a glimpse of my medicine cabinet or vanity, you sure as heck know that have WAY more than products than the average bear. So how did I even begin to edit my skincare & beauty? The easiest way to edit was to determine what products were harmful and begin to swap them out. I used the Think Dirty app to scan products to help identify the worst offenders and gradually clean up my vanity.
The Clean Beauty Swap
Enter, Beautycounter, my new favorite non-toxic personal care products. Their unique 5-step approach to providing safe and researched products, combined with their tested and vetted “Never List” of over 1,500 ingredients, ensure that each and every one their products are safe for your skin and better for your overall health.
Makeup Swaps
I started with the Flawless in Five kit for clean makeup that includes:
- Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation
- This is sheer coverage. If you’re normally a tinted moisturizer user (like the ever popular version from Laura Mercier) you’ll enjoy this formulation.
- Touchup Skin Concealer Pen
- Don’t let the name confuse you. This is similar to the YSL Touche Eclat Radiance Perfecting Pen and highlighter. It’s not giving you heavy duty morning after coverage but it will brighten up your complexion. Throw some in the eye area and around your lips (cupid’s bow) to emphasize your lip color.
- Color Define Brow Pencil
- I love this product! Even though I’ve had my brows microbladed, I still need to fill in here and there. The CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Cendre has been the perfect color but I found my match with Beautycounter in Medium.
- Lengthening or Volumizing Mascara
- 100% agreed mascara lasted all day and was easy to remove.
- Satin Powder Blush
- My kit actually came with the Color Pinch Cream Blusher and I love it. As an oily skin type, I normally steer away from any cream blush but this gives the perfect rouge without too much extra dew.
- Lip Gloss
- Lippies are my favorite! I use a lot of lip stains that can be drying and I found this gloss to be very nourishing while still providing a hint of color. I have been wearing Dahlia, a cool pink shade.
Skincare Swaps
My two favorite skincare products the facial mask and the Overnight Resurfacing Peel that I first mentioned on my Sleeping Beauty Aids post (HERE).
- Being an oily gal, the activated charcoal mask in the No. 3 Balancing Facial Mask works wonders. 97% said mask refined and smoothed skin after 2 weeks of use.
- The Overnight Resurfacing Peel is formulated without synthetic fragrances, PEGs, and formaldehyde-based preservatives commonly found in peels. I use it about 5 nights a week.
- I love traveling with the On-Step Makeup Remover wipes to take the day away in one quick swipe.
- I have my eye on the Countermatch Collection for a completely adaptive skin care kit.
Bath & Body Swaps
Ever since going on my family vacation this summer, my skin has been so dry. I would layer on coconut oil and then Cetaphil body creme trying to trap in moisture with no success. I recently switched to the body wash and body oil and am thrilled to finally be back to normal.
- Did I mention that the Citrus Mimosa Body Wash smells divine? It reminds me of a delicious Jo Malone scent for a fraction of the price and none of the toxins.
- I have never run out of shampoo before conditioner. So when I needed to re-up on sulfate free hair products, I opted for the Repair & Nourish conditioner. My hair has responded nicely and I’ve seen a great deal of volume when I blow it out.
