‘Twas the night before Halloween, when all through the house people were frantically arranging costumes. Isn’t that always the case? A mad last-minute dash to Target or the Halloween store to complete a look. I took a trip down memory lane to review some of my favorite Halloween costumes.
Princess of the Incas
One of my favorite Baby Sass photos because I am atop the kitchen counter. This Inca Princess costume featured my two favorite colors: red & purple paired with lipstick and blue eyeshadow. It would be years later that I would make it to Cuzco/Machu Picchu and fall in love with the magic of the Andes mountains.
Lilo
Hindsight is indeed 20/20. Hawaiian flair and a grass skirt seemed like a good idea to pull together the costume. Carrying around a friend’s Stich doll through the bars of downtown Orlando was not. Thankfully Ari was a good sport and forgave me for losing Stitch somewhere along the way.
Caperucita Roja
You may know Little Red Riding Hood, but I grew up reading Caperucita Roja. I believe this hood was one of Kristina’s first custom creations. I did not learn from my Lilo experience, another costume with a prop that I was just bound to leave behind!
Betty La Fea
Yo soy Betty, la Fea was a Colombian telenovela that aired in the late 90’s. My doppelganger, American Ferrera, brought Betty mainstream when ABC aired Ugly Betty This costume was one of the few that I actually purchased. A Guadalajara poncho was perfect for a sassy brunette looking for a simple, recognizable costume. Full disclosure, I did opt-out of wearing fake braces.
A good soundtrack for this costume: Bomba Estéreo – Soy Yo
Pocahontas
This makes me miss these ladies so bad! Nikki loves Halloween and always hosted the best bash! She has since moved to North Carolina. It is always a blast to play dress up with people that LOVE dressing up. I was Pocahontas and was going to try and wear this costume for the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Holy Poly-ME-Ester, there is no way I was even running to the bar in that outfit… much less 13.1 miles. I’m so glad that I got to put it to good use for Nikki’s party.
Frida Kahlo
The last time I probably went out for Halloween, I went as Frida Kahlo. Fun fact from POPSUGAR Latina: Frida Kahlo would have been 111 years old this year, and even 64 years after her death, the Mexican artist continues to be an icon of unconventional beauty and creativity.
This year we’re having a Halloween costume contest at work so I’ll be channeling another Latin bombshell to hopefully bring home a prize! Stay tuned on my InstaStories for all the big costume reveal and Halloween fun!
