week of 10/5: rose & thorn

It’s always helpful to take a moment to reflect on life’s peaks & valleys. For that reason, we’ll be playing the Rose & Thorn game each week. This Friday’s installment includes a “flamingle” with the family and sports heartbreak.

Rose.

You may have noticed that my #HappyDays last weekend all featured this adorable little blonde version of Baby Sass. That my friends is my youngest niece and goddaughter. She is a spunkiest little 3 year that I know! She was so excited to escape New York with her Papi and visit Abuela’s house because she has a pool. Over the course of the weekend, she decided that she would like to become a snowbird because she isn’t all too fond of winter. No objections here! It is so fun to be the aunt. She wasn’t too homesick and we had a fun time with visits to the beach and Lion Country Safari. It was just a really nice time to spend some real FaceTime with my little Elena. We faced time each night with the homebodies – her mother and older sister. I promised my other niece Camila that I would visit her house this year (likely Thanksgiving).

Thorn.

Damn. All. The. Sports. I was tricked into joining a Fantasy Football League because I was promised rosé and pizza. And now that the season is underway, every Thursday I suffer a minor heart attack because I have forgotten to check my lineup! I literally shrieked at happy hour last week because someone mentioned sports and it jogged my memory. PANIC! All of a sudden on Saturday night, I noticed that the Houston Astros were in the MLB playoffs and now I’m like totally into it! I have to root for my home team. But you know what really got my attention at dinner when I caught the game? Kate Upton in the stands cheering for her main man, Astro’s pitcher Justin Verlander. Now can someone please buy Kate an Astros shirt? Ok, Game Six is on so now I have to be a slave to the silly game because now I’m invested. Ugh, who am I?
