Beauty by Rx

Not all skincare was created equal. I am a big believer in customizing treatments, lotions, and potions. When I learned that I won a prescription medical facial from Baumann Cosmetic, I was over the moon. Baumann Cosmetic prescribes treatment strategies based on Skin Type Solutions™, an innovative skin typing system created by Dr. Leslie Baumann. Dr. Baumann’s many years of scientific study in dermatology has identified 16 unique skin types.

Upon checking in, I was handed an iPad and asked to complete the Skin Type Solution questionnaire. It was a series of questions that took no longer than 5 minutes to complete, and multiple answers were encouraged. I received my skin type analysis via email moment after submitting the questionnaire.  RESULTS: OSPW #7 Oily, Sensitive, Pigmented, Wrinkle Prone

Sassy’s Skin Type

What does this skin analysis mean to me? This personal skin type profile offers explanations as to why my skin acts the way it does and what products are most suitable for my skin type.  This evidence-based approach suggests scientifically verified products and procedures that promote skin health and a natural appearance.

Sassy’s Beauty Rx

Based on my OSPW skin type, my aesthetician Ali was able to customize a prescription medical grade facial. Ali was very interested in reviewing my profile and addressing my skin care concerns. I am currently struggling with seborrheic dermatitis so putting my face in the right hands was very comforting. We reviewed my current skin care regimen, and she answered any and all questions during my facial.

The Goods

The following products were all used during my skin-type prescribed facial treatment (not necessarily in this order). These products would also be recommended to amplify the results achieved with at-home skincare.

iS Clinical Tri-Active Exfoliant

This salicylic exfoliant is intended to fight acne and visible signs of aging. I enjoyed the texture as it was similar to a sugar scrub, not abrasive but you knew it was making helping exfoliate manually and chemically.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel

Alli explained that this product was ideal the ideal moisturizer for sensitive or acne-prone skin. It is an oil-free hydrating serum containing cucumber and thyme to soothe and calm the skin and mulberry to help minimize discoloration. I can’t help but think of how soothing this gel would be after an eyebrow wax.

Glowbiotics MD Calm After the Storm Mask

Probiotics for your face! Ali applied this soothing gel mask to my T-Zone to decrease redness and sensitivity. She used a multi-masking approach and layered a Professional Solutions Corrective Clearing Mask for the rest of my face. While I masked it out, she treated me to a relaxing shoulder/arm massage.

Replenix Power of Three Cream

This facial moisturizer is rich in antioxidants to help diminish the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. This caffeine-boosted cream contains green tea polyphenols to equal 500 cups of tea. I have used AMOREPACIFIC products and always responded well to the antioxidant-rich skin care powered by green tea.

Essopi Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 10x

I had discussed my use of prescription-strength retinoid, Tazorac with Alli during our initial skin consultation and she was just giddy. She said it was one of the best anti-aging tools in my medicine cabinet arsenal. Since my skin is used to retinol, there was little to no concern utilizing this highly effective anti-wrinkle serum. She did advise that I skip applying Tazorac on the night of this facial treatment.

PCA Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 45

The importance of hydration and sun protection cannot be stressed enough. As my face was exposed and layered with a retinol peel, Ali urged me to leave the solution on my face but to keep out of the sun for the day. I am also am a big fan Natura Bisse The Cure Sheer Cream.

The Rundown

The prescription medical facial I received included extractions, a chemical peel, and personalized skin care treatment. This treatment customarily offered for $200 at Dr. Baumann’s office and recommended every 6-8 weeks. After consulting with Ali, I gained a wealth of knowledge of what I should add and omit for my skin health. For example, did you know that acne flares up ever 12 hours? I have been inconsistent in my use of toner, and I could attribute that to the breakouts that do appear. I could probably prevent a breakout by consistently using my Sunday Riley Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner in my AM/PM skincare routine. There is also the option of an express facial for $150 that still includes extractions but not the same strength of peels to cut down on time. If you are in the Miami/South Florida area, I would highly recommend you getting a skin type analysis to target and treat your main skincare concerns. There’s no better gift to give yourself than to treat your skin right to put your best face forward!
