Unless you were living under a rock, there’s no way that you avoided a social media post, influencer, or email newsletter promoting the best buys for Amazon’s “Better Than Black Friday” Prime Day on July 15 & 16, 2019.
You know my love for Amazon (here and here). I was easily influenced and read damn near every article that came through my inbox; my favorites were from refinery29 and kitchn. I wasn’t buying things for the thrill of the steal! Every purchase has a purpose and now that I’ve received and used the items, here’s the rundown.
Blue Light Blocking Glasses
I’ve been wearing no-script glasses since 2010. I went to the optometrist and confirmed my 20/20 vision, but my complaints about eye strain were due to my extensive amount of time in front of the computer. Now between the computer and my iPhone, I needed a spare set of blue-blockers for home.

Charcoal Air Purifier Freshener Bags
Between pets, lingering food scents, stinky boxing gloves, our living spaces tend to collect plenty of unwanted smells over time. These air purifying charcoal bags from Colin & Bella help eliminate odors naturally rather than masking it.

23andMe DNA Test
My buddy Billy ordered this exact test on Black Friday last year because of Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s comprehensive reporting to unlock additional health data. I have been tracking my sample and doing my very best to complete the questionnaire. The science behind it all is fascinating!

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer
Do you have 7 minutes to get a sleek blowout? I do now. My medium length hair can get dried in just under 7 minutes using this one-step hairdryer. It’s perfect for travel since it’s an all-in-one styling tool and the results are FAB. I got this for my mom because she cannot possibly work a round brush and a dryer and she’s obsessed. The Prime Day price was better than using a Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupon.

Rainbow Light Multivitamin
I have recently tried to minimize the number of supplements I’ve been taking individually and switched to the Rainbow Light Multivitamins. My mother takes the 50+ , and whenever it’s on sale at Whole Foods, I stock up. After reading Dr. Jolene Brighten’s book, Beyond the Pill, she suggested that women on birth control should actually take a prenatal vitamin to supplement the vitamins and minerals the pill depletes the body of as the first line of therapy. Here’s an excerpt from her supplement PDF:
Research has shown that taking the birth control pill depletes your body of important nutrients. Here’s a list of some of the common nutrient depletions you may experience: • folate (folic acid) • magnesium • selenium • vitamin B2 (riboflavin) • vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) • vitamin B12 • vitamin C • vitamin E • zinc
In addition, the pill lowers antioxidants, such as coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). Because of all of these depletions, it’s important to consume a nutrient-dense diet and begin taking supplements, including CoQ10.
